Barkell Elementary to Scale Back Halloween Celebration – Hancock School Board Wrap

Local school districts continue to adapt to the new COVID-19 reality. At last night’s Hancock Board of Education meeting, Barkell Elementary School Principal Dan Vaara said this year’s Halloween celebration will be scaled back, but the traditional costume parade will still take place – outdoors, if Mother Nature cooperates…

“Unfortunately, if we can’t go outside, we’re not able to do anything inside the gym this year, but we do plan on having the kids parade through the school, and videotaping it, and getting it to the parents.”

Vaara still hopes that the second grade class can make its annual visit to residents of the Lighthouse at Hancock…

“I think we can get the class down there, and parade around outside the building, and they can watch through the windows.”

Also at last night’s meeting, Hancock Board members reviewed the latest COVID-19 Learning Plan update. They awarded the snow removal contract to Ziemneck Excavating, and hired Hannah Impola as JV hockey coach, Trina Sintkowski as a food service worker, and Lydia Bylkas as a temporary food service worker.
