Baraga Woman Injured In Alcohol-Related Crash

Police are investigating a crash that happened early Thursday morning in Baraga Township.

Just before 1:30am, Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post, L’Anse Detachment, investigated a personal injury accident on Baraga Plains Road near Mansfeldt Road.

A 47-year-old Baraga woman was traveling southbound on Baraga Plains Rd when she lost control of her vehicle, striking several mailboxes before leaving the roadway and eventually hitting a tree.

The driver was taken to Baraga County Memorial Hospital by Bay Ambulance and treated for her injuries.

The accident remains under investigation, but police say that alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.

The driver’s name will not be released until the investigation is complete.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Baraga Tribal Police, Baraga County Sheriff’s Department, Bay Ambulance, Dynamite Towing and the Wisconsin Public Service Electric Department.
