Baraga Schools Suspend Face-To-Face Instruction

The Baraga Area School District will move exclusively to online instruction beginning Monday.

In a statement released Friday, Superintendent Richard Sarau said the move had been recommended by the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department.

It has been brought about by the recent spike of Covid-19 cases in the community, along with positive tests for “a couple” of staff members, additional staff members with close contact, and “a couple” of probable student cases.

Sarau said the suspension of in-class activities will give the health department more time to pursue contact tracing, and will give school staff time to do a through cleaning.

He hopes the district can resume face-to-face activities November 16th.

The L’Anse Area School District will remain open. A statement by the school administration said the health department had not recommended a change, and that the district is currently dealing with only one probable student case.
