Baraga Schools Reopen; Hancock Student Tests COVID-Positive

Baraga Schools will reopen today, after taking a day off yesterday because of a positive COVID-19 test.

District officials say the Western U.P. Health Department has completed contact tracing, and they feel comfortable that classes can resume safely. School pictures will also proceed as scheduled today.

Schools were closed after a Baraga staff member tested positive for the coronavirus on Sunday. Officials say only a few students came into contact with the staff member, and they will be quarantined for 14 days.

Meanwhile, a Hancock School District student has tested positive for COVID-19.

Superintendent Steve Patchin says schools will remain open while mitigation efforts are underway.

He encourages students and their families to double down on efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, including appropriate handwashing, wearing masks, and not sending children to school if they appear ill.
