Baraga Deputies to Get New Body Cameras

Baraga County Sheriff’s Deputies will be getting new body cameras.

At this week’s meeting, county commissioners approved a lease agreement with Lenslock for seven cameras. Much of the cost will be offset by a grant from the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority, which carries the county’s liability insurance policy.

In other action, commissioners appointed Thomas Leeds, Barb McEwen, Joe Lee and Rich Wickstrom to the Recreation Committee. Doctors Craig Wickstrom, Jeffrey Sweers, Abigail Prentice and Evan Loukusa were appointed as deputy medical examiners. They approved a five-year lease to keep a U.P. Michigan Works office inside the county administration building.

Commissioners also went on record supporting construction of the Copperwood Mine in Gogebic County. The mine is fully permitted, and site work has already begun.
