Baraga Day’s Celebration Is Virtual This Year

The COVID-19 pandemic isn’t enough to stop this year’s Baraga Day’s Celebration.

Venerable Bishop Frederic Baraga, was known as the snowshoe priest for traveling through the worst of conditions to reach his flock.

This year’s celebration of his life is still on, although this year, it’s virtual.

The Baraga Association will interact with its members this weekend with Baraga experts, entertainment and even a livestreamed mass from St. Peter’s Cathedral in Marquette.

The Baraga Association is also working on an online library, which when done, can be accessed by anyone, anytime.

Lorena McKeen, Executive Director, said this year’s virtual event, will mirror in person events from the past.

Other plans for the event include performances by the Singing Slovenians, and Teal Lake Drum Circle.

McKeen said she hoopes the presentation will portray Bishop Baraga well.
