Baraga County Slammed by COVID-19

The increasing number of COVID-19 diagnosis in the Western Upper Peninsula is now being reflected in a rising death rate. 

The latest update from the Western Upper Peninsula District Health Department includes reports received from last Tuesday through Friday.

It includes 159 more confirmed positives, and 13 deaths.

Baraga County was again the hottest spot, with 65 new confirmed cases and eight deaths. The 59-bed Bayside Village nursing home in L’Anse has been particularly hard hit.

Houghton County had 55 more positives, Gogebic County had 29, Ontonagon County had nine, and Keweenaw County had one.

Ontonagon County recorded three more deaths, and Houghton and Gogebic Counties had one each.

Since the pandemic began, more than 2,500 cases have been confirmed in the five-county region. 64 of our neighbors have died.
