Property values have risen in Baraga County.
At last night’s Board of Commissioners meeting, Equalization Director Pat Osterman reported that real property values in this year’s Equalization Report came in at $438,288,352. That’s nearly $60 million higher than last year, although Osterman noted that some of the increase is because of a change in state guidelines that included more properties.
Commissioners agreed to have TC Electric change many of the fluorescent lights in county facilities over to LED lights. The $9,390 cost will be paid for from American Rescue Plan Act funds. The move will reduce the county’s electric bill.
The commission also voted its support for efforts to keep the U.S. Post Office from closing its sorting center in Kingsford. Board Chair Gale Eilola said the change would hurt Baraga County residents…
Dickinson County leaders are working with state and national legislators to try to reverse the decision.
