Baraga County Government Raises Starting Wage, Appoints DHHS Board Member

Workers beginning their employment with Baraga County will be paid more.

Last night, the Board of Commissioners raised the county’s basic starting wage from $14.00 per hour to $16.50.

Commissioners noted that they have been having trouble attracting applicants at the $14.00 rate, and that $16.50 will still be a bit below the starting wages offered by Houghton and Ontonagon Counties.

Commissioners also selected Bethany Preston to fill an open position on the Department of Health and Human Services Board.
