Baraga County was recently named as a leader in energy efficiency by the Michigan Energy Services Coalition.
County government was lauded for investing $1.47 million to upgrade lighting, replace heating and air conditioning systems, and install insulation and energy efficient windows and doors. In addition to replacing aging equipment, the investment will save Baraga County taxpayers nearly $14,000 per year on energy costs.
The Ecorse, Eastpointe, Flushing, and Mason County school districts were also honored by the Michigan Energy Services Coalition, which works with the state Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy to promote energy conservation.
