Repairs need to be done to the Houghton County Marina–and soon.
County Administrator Eric Forsberg informed the commissioners of the condition of the marina at their monthly meeting Tuesday.
Forsberg said a study was done about ten years ago that indicated the piers at the marina were starting to fail and would only have 10 to 15 years worth of life to them.
That predication came true as one of the dividing piers broke last year.
The county sent a diver down with a camera last fall and confirmed the poor condition of the piers.
U.P. Engineering applied for a grant from the state through the Department of Natural Resources to replace the worst of the piers.
The county was awarded the grant and the board gave the go ahead to get the piers replaced.
The matching funds for the grant will come out of the marina fund in the budget.
