Utilities Superintendent Ryan Avendt was promoted to Director of Public Works by the Houghton City Council at their regular meeting Wednesday.
Avendt had been sharing public works duties with Facilities Superintendent Doug Larson, who retired earlier this year.
The City of Houghton had split the responsibilities of the DPW director in 2015 following the resignation of longtime director Mark Zenner.
Because the city’s charter requires a director, City Manager Eric Waara has been listed as head of the DPW but will now pass that mantle on to Avendt, effective July 1st.
