Kids on the autism spectrum will have a chance to meet local first responders at a special event on Saturday.
Autism Safety Day is an opportunity for children on the autism spectrum, their families, as well as other students with disabilities to socialize with emergency personnel in a low stress, non-emergency environment. Children are welcome to bring a friend.
The event will be held between 10:00 and 2:00 at the Houghton Elementary School.
Kids can meet local police officers, firefighters and first responders, and climb into the back of an ambulance. The event will be sensory-friendly, with no sirens used.
There is no charge. Advance registration is not required, but would be helpful for planning purposes. Call Jeanne LaBonte at 231-9213.
