The 6th annual State Park Off Road Trek (S.P.O.R.T.) Ride was held on June 10th. This is an ATV ride that is supported by the folks at the Twin Lake State Park DNR (Parks and Recreation Division), and Michigan Trails and Recreation Alliance of Land and the Environment (MI-TRALE) that is open to the public.
The ride is always family oriented and covering 60-90 miles of riding fun. It is held on the second Saturday of June each year.
This year after enjoying several donuts, coffee, and a rain delay the group headed out for a 90 mile ride that covered some graded trails, a few two tracks, and county roads. No one got lost, and everyone had a great time. There were folks from Wisconsin, the Western UP, and several that were camping at Twin Lakes State Park.
Don Helsel stated “MI-TRALE and the State Parks originally created this ride to celebrate the opening of a new trail that connected the Twin Lakes and the Baraga State Parks. Now after 6 years it is happening in the other State Parks that are open to ATV users. We encourage the public to join us and they have responded”
Helsel further stated” The large portion of this year’s ride took place in the Ottawa National Forest. Without the strong support of the Ottawa and the DNR, this ride would not happen. The support that MI-TRALE receives form these partners make the recreation work that we do possible.”
Mark your calendars for June 09, 2018 for another great riding experience.
