In the latest measures to combat price gouging, during the COVID-19 outbreak, Attorney General Dana Nessel has extended Consumer Protection Hotline Operations to track complaints.
The hotline normally takes calls from 8:30a to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, but will take calls until 11pm tonight, as her office has received over 240 complaints, through phone calls and emails.
Nessel has stated she will not allow consumers to be taken advantage of during a public emergency, and encouraged consumers to continue filing complaints, if they feel they’ve been the victim of price gouging, so her office can investigate and determine if legal action needs to be taken.
Nessel also sent a message to businesses who are price gouging.
“I will not hesitate to fully prosecute establishments that are breaking the law and violating Michigan’s Consumer Protection Act or Governor Whitmer’s executive order.”
