Aspirus Welcomes Board Certified General Surgeon

LAURIUM, Mich. – Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital & Clinics is pleased to welcome Board Certified General Surgeon Benjamin T. Abadeer, DO to its expert team of medical providers. Dr. Abadeer’s special interests in general surgery include breast cancer, hernia repairs, upper and lower endoscopy, wound care, and ostomy care. He is seeing patients in the specialty care departments of Aspirus Laurium and Aspirus Houghton clinics.

Dr. Abadeer earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Midwestern University – Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois. He completed his internship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and his general surgery residency at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Madison Heights, Michigan.

After residency, he practiced alongside Sukamal Saha, MD, a surgical oncologist at Advanced General & Oncological Surgery Associates in Flint. Prior to Aspirus, he was employed as a general surgeon at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.

Dr. Abadeer received his board certification from the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery in 2014. His professional affiliations include the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Association, and the Christian Medical & Dental Society.

For Dr. Abadeer, education is one of the most important parts about patient care. Helping patients and their family members understand their surgical issues and know what surgical options are available is key to helping them make informed decisions throughout their surgical experience and journey to attain the best possible outcomes.

“Seeing people improve their health and persevere oftentimes through very difficult situations gives me the greatest joy,” he said. “I’m thankful to be here in the Keweenaw helping to advance care to the highest levels and make a positive difference in our community.”
