Aspirus Keweenaw Nurses Vote to Unionize

Nurses at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital are on their way to becoming union members.

In a 35-17 vote this week, staff members decided to join the Michigan Nurses Association, which is an affiliate of National Nurses United. The results will become official when certified within seven days, unless a challenge is raised by Aspirus management.

Aspirus had delayed the vote last summer by challenging the union’s use of mail-in ballots during the COVID-19 pandemic. The National Labor Relations Board stopped the election at the time. Last month, it issued updated guidelines about how and when mail-in ballots can be used.
