LAURIUM, Mich. – Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Clinics has met all criteria for laboratory accreditation by the Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA), a national healthcare accreditation organization.
The two-year accreditation is given only to laboratories that apply rigid standards of quality in day-to-day operations, demonstrate continued accuracy in the performance of proficiency testing, and pass a rigorous on-site laboratory survey. Both the Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Aspirus Houghton Clinic laboratories received accreditation as the result of a long-term commitment to provide quality service to patients.
“Achieving COLA accreditation is an accomplishment we’re very proud of,” said Christina Asiala, laboratory manager for Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Clinics. “It demonstrates that our dedicated laboratory staff is committed to delivering our patients the highest levels of care.”
COLA is a nonprofit, physician-directed organization promoting quality and excellence in medicine and patient care through programs of voluntary education, achievement, and accreditation.
In a letter from the COLA Board of Directors Chair Richard Eisenstaedt, he said, “The standards your laboratory maintains demonstrate your commitment to quality. Your emphasis on quality leads to reliable test results, which are essential in assuring excellence in patient care. We also compliment your laboratory staff for its dedication and continued support of COLA standards.”
COLA is approved by the federal government and sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the American College of Physicians- American Society of Internal Medicine.
