Aspirus Keweenaw Auxiliary invites graduating seniors to apply for $500 scholarships

The Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital Auxiliary invites local graduating seniors to apply for one of two $500 academic scholarships. The scholarships are a way to say “thank you” to those who have shown support for the Auxiliary’s many fundraising activities.

“We’re very proud to offer this new scholarship program for graduating seniors who are going on to college,” said Jenn Jenich-Laplander, volunteer and community relations coordinator at Aspirus. “This is just one way we can give back and help to make a positive difference in the lives of our youth.”

The scholarships will be applied to the fall 2019 semester, and funded directly to the recipient’s school of choice with proof of registration. Qualifying applicants include Aspirus Keweenaw employees, auxiliary members, volunteers and junior volunteers.

Immediate family members of employees, auxiliary members and volunteers are eligible if they reside in the same household address, or are currently attending an accredited school. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited academic or occupational program. It need not be in a medical field.

In addition to the application form, applicants must include:

  • A brief essay that answers the question: If I were awarded this scholarship, how would it assist me in accomplishing my goals?
  • A listing of volunteer work and community involvement.
  • Two reference letters from non-family members.

Scholarship applications are being mailed to local schools. A downloadable form is available on the Volunteers page of the Aspirus website at aspirus.org. Applications can be mailed to the Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital Auxiliary at 205 Osceola Street, Laurium, MI, 49913. The application deadline is Wednesday, May 1.
