Applicants Sought For The Making A Difference Scholarship

HANCOCK, Mich., Jan. 25, 2017 – The Portage Health Foundation (PHF) and Michigan Tech are seeking applicants from Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon counties for the PHF Making a Difference Scholarship.

At the heart of what PHF does, is investing in health care, health research, and health education. “We believe there is an enormity of opportunity for young people,” said Kevin Store, Executive Director at PHF. “By helping to provide access to higher education opportunities, we can help meet the diverse health needs of our communities by inspiring our next generation of professionals to become scientists, researchers, and doctors who can address and solve some of our most challenging health care problems.”

Four high school seniors or transfer students who are residents of Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, or Ontonagon County will receive an $8,000 annual scholarship to attend MTU in the fall of 2017 and pursue a degree in pre-health, health sciences, or health engineering programs. The scholarship will be renewable for up to four years (eight semesters) of study.

To encourage academic success, recipients of the 2017 PHF Making a Difference scholarship will have the opportunity to receive mentorship from current Making a Difference scholarship students and from students participating in undergraduate research experiences and athletic training experiences co-funded through the MTU and PHF partnership.

Completed scholarship applications are due by February 15, 2017. To learn more, please visit MTU’s website (http://www.mtu.edu/admissions/phf/) for more information about the scholarship and on how to apply.
