Another U.P. Church Goes “Big Box”

A second Upper Peninsula church is moving into a building formerly occupied by a big box retailer.

Late last year, Evangel Church in Houghton took over the former Shopko location.

Now, Northiron Church of Ishpeming has announced plans to purchase the former JC Penney building at the Westwood Mall in Marquette.

Northiron had purchased property adjacent to the Penney location on which they planned to build a new facility. The project changed direction when the mall property became available.

The congregation hopes to have renovations completed by late summer.
