Another Baraga County Commissioner to Step Down

The Baraga County Board of Commissioners will look much different next year.

Last night, first-term commissioner Lyle Olsen confirmed that he will not run for reelection in November. Olsen represents District Four.

Two of the other five commissioners, Dan Robillard from District Three and current board chair Bill Rolof from District Five, announced their retirements last month.

At last night’s board meeting, veteran commissioner Gale Eilola from District One said he will stand for reelection. District Two commissioner Brad Dakota also said he will run. Dakota was appointed to the position shortly after the 2020 election. Will Wiggins, who won the seat, had to resign because of a conflict of interest with his job.

The filing deadline for most partisan candidates who wish to appear on the August primary ballot is next Tuesday.
