Amasa Man Dies at Ned Lake

An Amasa man is dead, after an apparent drowning in southern Baraga County.

Michigan State Police troopers found the body of 71-year-old Gary Stroud yesterday afternoon around 2:00 at Ned Lake, south of Nestoria, and just north of the Iron County line.

They say it appears that he was tending to his boat, which was moored near the lake shore.

Stroud was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was taken to Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

An investigation continues. Troopers are asking that anyone who can shed some light on what happened call the Calumet Post at 337-5145. Tips can also be submitted through the Michigan State Police app.
