Ahmeek Village Volunteer Fire & rescue Department receives FEMA Grant

Thanks to the FY2019 assistance to Firefighters Grants Program, the Ahmeek Village Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department has received a $173,000 FEMA new vehicle acquisition grant.

They plan to use the funding to purchase a new light duty rescue truck, replacing a 1985 pick up, which they acquired from the DNR.

The department considers themselves lucky, as only two vehicle grants have been issued in the entire state.

According to Grants Administrator Michael Defina this grant came from two requests submitted.

The status of the other grant application is unknown at this time, but Defina said they will continue pursuing various avenues of funding, til they have everything they need to get the job done safely and efficiently.
