A fiery crash in Adams Township early this morning sent two people to the hospital for treatment.
Houghton County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched a little after 2:00 to the intersection of Canal Road and Old Mill Hill Road.
They discovered that a car had rear-ended a construction crane that was in place as part of a road construction project.
The impact set the car on fire, and the crane burned, as well.
The driver and one passenger were taken to UP Health System-Portage for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Two additional passengers who fled the scene were later located by deputies.
An investigation continues. Deputies say alcohol is believed to be a factor.
The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Mercy Ambulance, Houghton City Police, Hancock City Police, MTU Public Safety, Michigan State Police, Adams Township Fire and First Responders and Superior Service.
