Adams Township Voters to Decide on New Fire Hall

Voters in Adams Township will be asked to approve a bond sale and millage increase to build a new fire hall in the November 8th election.

Firefighter Darren Niemi said the original part of the current station was built in 1947, with an addition in 1995…

You had smaller trucks back then. You didn’t have the equipment that you have nowadays. I mean, now we have our tanker, which is almost a 4,000-gallon tanker. We have a big pumper.

First responders were added to the staff in 2003, exacerbating the space problem…

Our storage for first responders is one of the old bathrooms that was in the fire hall, which is about three feet by five feet.

Some expensive critical equipment that should be stored inside has to be kept outside.

Voters will be asked to approve a $1.6 million bond proposal to build the new station on M-26. Land for the building has been donated. The tax increase for the first year would be about 1.2 mills.

If the new hall is built, Adams Township will take over the existing building for storage.

Firefighters will host an open house tomorrow between 11 and 2 at the current fire hall on Erickson Drive. They’ll be serving chili, and will have treat bags for kids. They’ll be happy to answer any questions you have about the proposed new fire station.
