Absentee Ballot Numbers Continue To Grow

Absentee ballot numbers continue to grow, as we approach the August 4th primary election.

Over 1.8 million absentee ballots have been requested, and over 600,000 have been returned, eclipsing 2016’s total of just over 484,000.

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said “The volume of absentee ballot requests and returns we’re seeing underscores the near universal enthusiasm Michigan voters share for casting their ballot in a way that is safe, secure and convenient.”

Election workers are still needed, due to the increase of absentee ballots, and to staff polling places on election day.

There is a shortage this election cycle, as elderly people, who normally handle election day with no problem, are taking a break, due to health risks over COVID-19.

Michigan’s Bureau of Elections will be providing PPE at all polling places, and will enforce social distancing rules.

Contact your local clerk’s office, for information on becoming an election worker.

Training is provided, and you will be paid for your time.
