39 Students Selected for Finlandia Alumni Association Textbook Award

The following press release was issued by Finlandia University:

The Finlandia Alumni Board (FAB) has selected 39 students for its first ever Alumni Association Textbook Awards. The award is given out in the form of a $250 textbook voucher to North Wind Books, and winners can collect their award at North Wind Books. With over 150 applicants, narrowing it down to 39 was a daunting task.

“The instant we started seeing applications coming in, we knew we had selected the right cause,” said Olivia Myers, Coordinator of External Relations and FAB liaison for FinnU. “Some of the stories the students told were incredibly moving and we began to realize how much of a financial burden the cost of textbooks can be for students. When we called our winners, they were beyond thrilled. One student even put us on speaker phone so his parents could hear the good news.”

The Alumni Association Textbook Awards are a direct result of the FAB’s first Giving Day campaign that was launched this past June.

“When we announced the Giving Day campaign total, we had enough funds to supply 35 awards,” said Myers. “Thanks to a few last-minute donors, we were able to give an additional four students an award. Thank you again to everyone who donated. You truly made a difference in the lives of these students.”
