17-Mile Long Road Project Set To Begin In Keweenaw County

A road repair project is set to get underway near Mohawk in Keweenaw County.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing about $1.6 million to chip seal 17 miles of US-41 from north of First Street in Mohawk to north of Lac La Belle Road.

The work includes crack sealing, gravel shoulder repair and pavement markings.

The sealing will reduce further pavement cracking while also providing increased surface friction. Gravel shoulder repairs will increase safety and improve drainage.

The project will require single-lane closures under flag control.

Work gets underway starting May 13th and should wrap up by July 19th.
