Here are 10 good things that have happened in Houghton in the last two weeks, as reported during the city council’s regular meeting Wednesday, September 27, 2017.
- The MTU Wetlands Club did a cleanup of the Huron Creek wetland last weekend.
- The Parade of Nations had one its biggest turnouts ever.
- There is top course pavement going down on Lakeshore Drive.
- The Planning Commission was informed that Houghton County is still in the running for the Georgetown Energy Prize and that our area was able to cut electric and gas consumption by 13 percent.
- The faded street marker bollards on M-26, Ridge and Razorback roads were repainted.
- The tomatoes are ripe in the terrace garden between Dial Help and UPEA.
- The Dee is scheduled to host a Mite tournament this November—the first time in many years.
- Volunteers are adding another garden by the boat launch with more donated flowers.
- The City RV Park looks like it is having its best season ever.
- Houghton had record breaking heat last weekend and has not had a frost yet.
