Eight teams of Copper Country high school students are competing in this year’s Local History Smackdown this evening.
The teams will field questions about local history, geography, and geology, including two rounds based on photos.
Two wrong answers and teams are out of play.
Students have been preparing for this event for weeks.
The Smackdown will take place at the Finnish American Heritage Center at 7:00 pm.
The event is free and open to the public.
This year’s Smackdown is a key event for National Park Week, a nationwide celebration of national parks. It’s also one of the first events in Keweenaw’s Find Your Park calendar, marking the centennial of the National Park Service.
You’re invited to come to the event early for an informal national park trivia game and your chance to win a selection of door prizes.
