Local Dentist, Nara Nature Park Land Donor–Dr. Robert Nara Dies

A former dentist in Houghton, who name is well known partially for the trails that bear his name, has died.

Dr. Robert Owen Nara passed away at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility on Thursday, September 18th after a long illness.

Nara opened his local dentist practice in 1961 and was a big promoter of the preventive dentistry program of Oramedics.

He and his wife, Ruth, donated the land that would become the Nara Nature Park in Houghton.

He was 79 years old.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday (9/24) at Saints Peter & Paul Lutheran Church in Houghton at 11:00am.

Visitation will be from 9:00am to 11:00am prior to the funeral.

Burial will be at the Lake View Cemetery.

The Pearce Funeral Home of Lake Linden is assisting the family.
