Little Free Library Coming To Houghton

Residents near the Garnet Street Park in Houghton will soon be able to share their love of books through a small free community library.

At their regular meeting Wednesday, the Houghton City Council approved the installment of a Little Free Library in the park, an effort being led by Houghton Beautification member Sara Eles.

A mother of two, Eles says this mini-library will focus more on children’s books.

There is an initial setup cost of about $35 for that Eles says she will be covering herself and the library will be looked after by a small group of neighbors.

Little Free Library is a non-profit organization that was started in 2009 to promote literacy and a love a reading around the world.

Proceeds raised by the organization go to help disadvantaged communities around the world that do not have access to books.

According to the Little Free Library website, there are libraries in South Range, Dodgeville, Calumet, and two in Hancock.
