The state is taking public comments on a proposal to independently analyze the much talked about Enbridge Line 5 pipelines which run under the Straits of Mackinac. But there’s not much time to get comments in.
Comments have to be submitted by the end of this week.
The 62 year old Line 5 has been criticized because of its age, and its owner-operator Enbridge, which also owns a line that busted in southern Michigan in 2010.
Some say tests have shown Line 5 to be OK. Others say the pipes should be replaced. Still others say they should be shut down and not replaced due to the environmental and ecological sensitivity of the area.
