December 11, 2015 – The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is reminding the public that, due to ongoing maintenance work on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, the bridge will not be operable for marine lifts after Dec.15.
The bridge is scheduled to resume normal operation April 15, 2016.
The $8.4 million project involves upgrades and preventive maintenance on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge between Houghton and Hancock.
Moving into the winter construction season, crews will be focusing on electrical system work and testing.
Most of this work will not impact vehicular traffic or will only require brief single-lane closures.
Intermittent, short-term full closures of the bridge will be scheduled at a later date, as well as a small number of nighttime 30-minute closures. MDOT will publicize these closures once they are scheduled.
The project started in mid-December 2014 and is scheduled to be completed in mid-April 2016.
