A move is underway in the Michigan Legislature to repeal the state law allowing for the licensing of dietitians and nutritionists. Supporters say that since no rules have ever been put in place regarding licensing of dietitians there’s no reason to allow for the state licensing of those professions. Opponents of the bill say there is great value in licensing nutritionists and dieticians adding that county sheriffs need a licensed dietitian to ensure that prisoners health was ensured while they served their time. The legislation has passed the house. It’s now before the Michigan Senate.
