Legislative Leaders Disagree on Tax Relief in Roads Plan

State lawmakers continue to disagree on tax cuts included in a proposed plan to repair the state’s roads.

Legislative leaders and the governor had been working on a plan to raise $1.2 billion to fix the roads.

The latest plan included about $400 million in general fund dollars and $800 million in tax and fee increase.

But another part of the plan would roll back the state’s income tax, which House Minority Leader Tim Greimel isn’t on board with, because, he says it would primarily benefit the wealthy.

But Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof says he’s not willing to take tax relief out of the plan.

He says it makes sense that those who pay more in taxes would benefit most from a tax cut.

Talks on a roads plan have stalled and the no other meetings among the leaders and the governor are scheduled.
