Employees would have the option to walk back Michigan’s controversial right to work law under legislation introduced in the Michigan House.
State Representative Robert Kosowski, a Democrat, is sponsoring the bills and says employees could unionize – including requiring dues be paid – if 75 percent of employees vote to do so .
He doesn’t expect the legislation to gain much traction in a Republican-controlled House and Senate but he’s hopeful some Republicans will see it as a middle ground because he isn’t trying to outright repeal right to work.
Michigan’s right to work law, which passed the legislature in 2012 and took effect in 2013, prohibits new union contracts from requiring dues.
