Lawmakers Consider Bill to Keep Siblings Together in Foster Care

A bill aimed at keeping siblings in foster care together is being considered by state lawmakers.

The legislation would require a reasonable effort be made to keep siblings removed from a home in the same placement, or provide for frequent visitation, unless the state deems doing so would not be safe.

Beth Stuever and her husband adopted three siblings from foster care.

She says she can’t imagine her kids going through foster care without being together.

Stuever says they understand each other and know how to help work through each other’s issues.

But she says it’s not a one size fits all solution.

She says there are cases where siblings may not know each other or there may be sibling abuse.

The measure passed a Senate committee Wednesday and awaits a vote in the full Senate.
