In the wake of the mass shooting in Oregon, a state lawmaker is saying the best way to prevent these shootings is to end gun free zones.
State Senator Patrick Colbeck says most mass shootings happen in facilities where guns are not allowed, like schools, daycares and entertainment facilities.
The Canton Republican says shooters will drive miles to target a gun free zone because they won’t face any resistance or armed pushback.
Colbeck says gun free zones empower criminals while criminalizing law abiding citizens.
He says according to the Crime Prevention Research Center, which often argues for expanding gun access, 92-percent of mass shootings happen in gun free zones.
