The vehicle caught fire after the impact.

The first Trooper to arrive on scene was near the crash at the time and arrived within one minute of being dispatched.

An off duty Deputy with the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department also stopped to assist at the scene shortly after it occurred.

A 48-old woman was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy Ambulance where she was pronounced dead.

A dog in the vehicle was extricated by the Calumet Township Fire Department and was taken by a deputy from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department to the Northland Vet Clinic in Hancock for treatment.

Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash…which remains under investigation.
