A Calumet man is facing jail time and restitution after agreeing to a plea deal in two cases against him.
37-year-old Isaac Laplander appeared in Houghton County Circuit Court on Wednesday, where he pled ‘No Contest’ to one count of Breaking and Entering with Intent, a 10 year felony, and one count of Unlawful Driving Away of a Vehicle, a five year felony.
As part of the plea agreement, the minimum sentence is to be capped at two years and he will not be sentenced as a habitual offender.
Also, his sentences are to run concurrently.
However, Laplander must pay $16, 972 in restitution prior to sentencing.
The charges stem from a series of incidents in the spring of 2015 where it is alleged that Laplander broke into an auto parts store in Calumet then later stole a Chevrolet Camaro from a car dealership in Calumet while out on bond.
Laplander was permitted to plead No Contest since he says he was too drunk to remember everything that happened.
He is scheduled to appear for sentencing in four weeks though his attorney said more time may be needed to pay the restitution.
