The Republican leader in the Michigan House expects to have a better idea of how the state should spend a $575 million budget surplus after the governor delivers his budget address Wednesday.
House Speaker Kevin Cotter says, in some lawmaker’s minds, the money has been spent seven ways to Sunday.
But he wants to wait for the governor to lay out all of the numbers this week before he’s ready to commit.
Some lawmakers have said they want the money to go to help Flint with its water crisis, others say they want it to go towards paying down Detroit Public Schools debt and some want it set it aside in the rainy day fund.
