L’Anse Fire signed the purchase agreement for a new fire engine and first aerial truck in Baraga County. The truck will be well used in the community, to allow firefighters a higher vantage point when responding to disaster. The truck was purchased with the help of Baraga County, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, L’Anse Township, and the Village of L’Anse. The truck’s platofrm is a 2005 Pierce Dash, spouting a 95 foot ladder, a 2000 GPM pump, and has about 10 thousand miles on the vehicle. L’Anse Fire purchased their new fire engine from a department in Howell Township, New Jersey, who helped detail a complete vehicle history and kept it in great shape. L’Anse fire’s new vehicle will have a few modifications made by the Pierce to outfit the truck for the department’s needs. The department hopes to have the truck in the fire house sometime in May. When the vehicle arrives crews will begin training how to properly used and maintain the new fire truck.
