Lampricide Treatments Scheduled

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has scheduled lampricide treatments for two area rivers. Treatment of the Little Carp River in Baraga County, Traverse River in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties will begin around May 14th, depending on the weather and river conditions. The process will take about a week, and is designed to kill lamprey larvae that are burrowed into the river bottom. Lampricid and Bayluscide have been tested and shown to be safe for humans, but people are still advised to avoid contact with the river waters during the treatment procedure.
