Cars loaded with old electronics, televisions, computers and more, were quickly unloaded by Koppers Employees helping the community recycle some very toxic metal and materials. Electronic components found in televisions and radios are commonly made using copper and nickel. Which if left outside in the environment can leach harmful metals into ground water.
“Well they can be very harmful to aquatic life. Especially when we have a lot of smaller lakes around here. Some of that stuff can leak out into the environment, and cause a lot of harm to the environment.” – Enid Partika, Member of Copper Country Recycling Initiative
E waste recycling events like Koppers are very common on or around Earth Day, April 22nd. And often recycle a very large amount of metals, electronics, chemicals, and plastics. Koppers E waste recycling, and other Earth day events around the are this weekend were organized in part by the Copper Country recycling initiative.
