State Representative John Kivela hopes to return to Lansing sometime next week after suffering what he described as major internal blood loss this week.
Kivela, who was arrested last month for having a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit, hasn’t been at the Capitol since.
To date he’s missed three session days.
The Marquette Democrat took to Facebook Tuesday night to say doctors discovered the internal bleeding was coming from an artery where he once had a surgical incision.
The artery has been repaired.
Kivela is planning to return to work next week.
After his arrest on November 9th, where an open bottle of whiskey was found in his truck, Kivela issued a statement saying he had been battling alcohol addiction for the better part of his adult life and was going to seek treatment.
