Keweenaw Peninsula Earns a Top Spot for Fishing on the Fourth of July

The Keweenaw Peninsula has been ranked as a top destination for fishing on Fourth of July weekend. Fishingbooker.com, recently released their rankings for the top fishing spots in the country during the holiday weekend. Their list of destinations included both small towns and big cities. The ocean-side city, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina grabbed the top spot. A city known for it’s shoreline ocean fishing, offering up many highly sought after sport fish. Along the Keweenaw and throughout the peninsula are dotted with secret fishing holes, well known streams, and plenty of water, housing some incredible fish. While Fishingbooker.com focuses on Lake Superior, fishing is an activity were it doesn’t matter if you’re on the big water, or standing on a river bank, in a kayak or going out for the first time. It is a perfect fun summer time activity to sit back and relax with this weekend. The DNR’s weekly fishing report notes in the Keweenaw Bay, anglers were out mostly trolling, and had success with flies, and spoons of various colors including green, blue and silver spoons. Near the South Canal Entry, and Traverse Bay anglers reported jigging was working very well with trout and salmon in the area.
