Keweenaw Land Trust Receives Grant For Princess Point

A precious natural resource will continue to be enjoyed by the public thanks in part to a grant from the Portage Health Foundation.

The Keweenaw Land Trust had acquired Princess Point near Jacobsville which includes 360 feet of waterfront on the Keweenaw Waterway.

The Foundation awarded the KLT $13,375 to help prepare the site and make it a safe and usable for the public.

Executive Director of the Keweenaw Land Trust Evan McDonald says the Portage Health Foundation grant helps establish the Princess Point Nature Area…an area that will be accessible for kayakers and canoeists as part of the Keweenaw Water Trail.

Princess Point has beautiful views of undeveloped lands nearby and is a popular spot for fishing, hunting and for water sports.

The land was donated by several members of the Uitti family with a desire to see this land be put to use for the general public.
