The Keweenaw Community Foundation’s annual Keweenaw Gold fundraiser is being hailed as a success.
The fundraiser, held March 22nd, rose over $33,000.
Two awards were presented during the evening. The Herman “Winks” Gundlach, Jr. Award was presented to Joe Kirkish for giving to 17 different organizations’ endowments last year.
The 2015 Community Volunteer Award went to Carolyn Peterson for her work with the Alive Inside program, which brings personalized music to residents of area nursing homes through the technology of iPods, headsets, and iTunes.
Attendees had the chance to join the Keweenaw Gold Club by purchasing a tile made from minerals from the Clark Mine in Copper Harbor.
Half of the proceeds went to support the endowment of their choice.
This year, $5,400 was raised from the Keweenaw Gold Club, the proceeds of which went to 11 different organizations.
